
Bucks Lose Late Lead, Game

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- The Laredo Bucks fell to the Arizona Sundogs 4-3 in overtime on New Year's Eve Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center. The Bucks are winless in their last four road games (0-3-1) as they fall to 10-14-5 (25 points).
Laredo could not hold a 3-1 third period lead as Arizona scored twice late in regulation and Tyler Butler had the game-winning goal with just three seconds left in overtime to lead the Sundogs to the comeback win. Arizona improves to 13-13-4 (30 points).
Luke Erickson tied the game at 3-3 with just 2:59 left in the third period when he jammed in his second of the night and team-leading 16th of the season from the left side of the crease.
Arizona would cut Laredo's lead to 3-2 with 8:07 left in the third when Joey Sides scored a shorthanded breakaway goal to pick up his 12th of the campaign.
For the second straight game the Bucks scored less than two minutes into the first period. Darryl Smith gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead just 1:48 into the game when he scored from the left circle on a two-on-one break. The goal was Smith's sixth of the season and the 77th in his Bucks career, tying Adam Rivet for fifth place all-time in franchise history.
The Sundogs tied the game at 1-1 at the 6:05 mark thanks to a five-minute power-play. Erickson scored from the top of the left circle.
Each team put up 10 shots in the first period.
Laredo would snap out of their power-play slump and score twice with the man advantage to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Bucks would strike on a five-on-three power-play 9:21 into the second when Daniel Koger scored his 17th of the season off of a rocket shot from the slot.
Jeff Bes would put the Bucks up 3-1 with 2:12 left in the second when he scoredon the power-play.
Each team put up 12 shots in the second period.
Levente Szuper stopped 27 of 30 shots to improve to 2-0-1 against the Bucks this season while Pier Pelletier stopped 39 of 43.
Laredo was outshot in the third period 14-7, in overtime 7-1 and for the game 43-30.
The Bucks and Sundogs will close out their three-game series on New Year's Day Saturday. Game time is 8:05pm CST.
