Killer Bees Fall in 6-5 Barn Burner vs Odessa

ODESSA, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (13-16-3) fell 6-5 to the Odessa Jackalopes (15-14-2) at the Ector County Coliseum for the final game of the year 2010. The Bees rallied from an early deficit but were unable to find the equalizer at any point. Dan Gendur led the Bees with two goals and an assist. Sean Muncy had two assists for the Bees.

The Odessa Jackalopes scored a pair for first period goals just 1:12 apart just five minutes into the game. Mike Ramsay got the Jacks' on the board first at 4:09 after receiving a pass by Alex Dunn, Ramsay was able to beat Pagliero five-hole.

At 5:23 Odessa increased their lead to two goals when Mark Ehl put in the rebound off a Kenny Bernard breakaway shot. The Bees would return to form for the rest of the period at the end of the first period trailed in the shot department by only one, 11 to 10.

The second period would be one for the history books with the two teams combining for five goals and 15 penalties. Odessa took the first six penalties of the period and the Killer Bees would finish the frame with four straight infractions.

Odessa would score the first two goals of the second period at 7:47 and 8:83. After the two goals Juliano Pagliero left the game in favor of Dan Rosen. The first goal was scored by Mike Lesperance and the second by Kenny Corupe while the Jacks' were shorthanded.

With the spark provided by Rosen the Bees rattled off three straight goals to cut the Odessa lead to one goal.

Jake Obermeyer scored the first of the Bees trio of power-play goals with a shot from the point at 12:43. Dan Gendur picked up the assist on the Obermeyer strike from the point.

The Bees cut the lead in half less than a minute later while the Bees were still on the man-advantage. Nick Sucharski scored his second of the season from the slot with a backhanded shot past Joel Martin. Aaron Lewicki and Sean Muncy picked up the helpers.

At 15:42 the Bees would make it a one-goal game with their third power-play strike of the period. Dan Gendur scored from the top of the circles after a great feed from Ryan McLeod. Martin got a piece of the puck but it bounced past the goal line.

The Jackalopes would get one back at the end of the second period to bring their lead back to two goals at 5-3. While on the two-man advantage Todd Robinson ripped a shot past Bees netminder Dan Rosen.

Odessa opened the third still on the power-play and Mike Ramsay scored just 31 seconds in the period. Todd Robinson and Sebastien picked up the assists on the power-play strike.

The Bees would rally for the rest of the third period in their hunt to find an equalizer. Dan Gendur made it a two-goal lead with an unassisted strike at 15:26. The Bees scored their final goal of the game at 17:48 thanks to a Zak McClellan strike from the far side hash-marks. Sean Muncy and Aaron Lee picked up helpers.

The Bees and Jacks' finish their four-game set tomorrow night once again in Odessa. The game starts at 7:05 and can be heard Valley wide on Real Country 102.1-FM KBUC.
