Brahmas Offense Explodes in New Year's Eve Win
December 31, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
North Richland Hills, TEXAS - It was a New Year's Eve to remember as Texas faced Bossier-Shreveport for their fifth contest of the season. With both teams having two wins under their belt in the season series the Brahmas showcased their offense and pulled ahead in the I-20 rivalry with a final score of 4-2.
The Mudbugs stuck first when David Rutherford, with assists from Steven Crampton and Shane Hart beat Jeff Harvey at the goal with 9:52 left in the first to take the lead 1-0.
The second period showed the rivalry at its best with both sides defending their ice relentlessly until, with 7:13 left, Greg Hogeboom scored with assists from Calin Wild and Jason Krischuk to tie up the contest. With 2:28 left in the second period and a two man advantage the Bugs were unable to capitalize on the power play due to the curtain steel defense the Brahmas executed.
The Brahmas offense came out early in the third when only 3:52 into the period, Tyler Allen scored his eighth goal of the season with assists from Chris Moran and Steven Later to give the Brahmas their first lead of the evening 2-1. The lead didn't last long as Rutherford scored his second goal of the evening mark to tie it up for the Mudbugs 2-2.
Less than three minutes from the Mudbugs goal, the Brahmas answered back with a goal of their own. On a power play goal, Allen scored his second goal of the night with assists from Chad Wollard and Jason Krischuk to give the Brahmas a 3-2 lead with eight minutes left.
The Brahmas offense continued their attack and within 21 seconds of their go ahead goal, Calin Wild flew one past Brian Foster to extend the Brahma lead by 2 giving them the 4-2 advantage with 8:36 left in the third period.
A last minute effort to gain a one man advantage by pulling goaltender Foster at the two minute marker failed the desired effect as the Brahmas held on for the win.
Defenseman Ross Rouleau played his 100th game as a Brahma.
The Brahmas head to Tulsa to face the Oilers for a New Year's Day game before they start a three game home stand opposite the Colorado Eagles 4:00 PM Sunday, January 2. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423 or visit www.brahmas.com.
