Komets Net A Hat Trick, Shutout And Six Points For Week 18; Deangelis Rookie Of The Week

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets posted a perfect 3-0 week last week netting six points, a hat trick and a shutout along the way. Wednesday night the Komets turned back the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder 6-2 as Matt Syrocyzynski (LW) registered the Komets first hat trick of the season scoring three goals including the game winner. Defenseman Brandon Warner also passed four assists for his first career four-point night. It was the first time a Komet passed four assists in a game since David Hukalo dished four Dec. 27, 2007, also on Coliseum ice against Bloomington.

Saturday Komet goaltender Nick Boucher stoned the Mallards at Quad City 5-0 on 19 saves and successfully faced seven power plays for his first shutout of the season. It was the third shutout of the season for Fort Wayne. Sean O'Connor (RW) registered his third two-goal game of the season and added an assist for his second three-point night.

Sunday the Komets completed the week with their fifth straight win over the Thunder 5-2 at Bloomington and extended their win string to three games. Goalie Tim Haun posted his career high 18th win of the season and second straight win stopping 35 of 37 shots.

The Komets improved to 29-15-0-2 and reached 60 points after 46 games, bettering their mark of 60 points in 50 games last year. Fort Wayne pulls to within three points of second-place Port Huron and trails first-place Muskegon by 11 points with nine weeks and 30 games remaining in 2009-10.

DeAngelis IHL Rookie of the Week.....the IHL announced Monday that Komet defenseman Frankie DeAngelis has been named the Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. DeAngelis, celebrating his 25th birthday today, scored two goals and two assists for four points and posted a plus-six after appearing in all three games. The Woodbridge, Ontario native scored the the game winner Saturday at Quad City in a 5-0 Fort Wayne win and had points in each game of the week for a three-game point streak. DeAngelis leads Fort Wayne defensemen with eight goals and is second among IHL rookies with seven power play assists. DeAngelis was also Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1.

The week ahead This week the Komets host their third straight Wild Wednesday as Bloomington (21-20-2-5) returns to Coliseum ice for a 7:30pm faceoff. It's the 10th of 12 meetings with the Komets leading the series 7-2-0-0. In their last five games, the Thunder are 1-3-0-1 including two losses to Fort Wayne. Bloomington is fighting to hold their fourth-place playoff spot leading fifth place Dayton by five points.

Friday the Komets welcome the Port Huron (30-16-0-3) Icehawks for an 8pm faceoff. The Komets grounded the Iceahawks 9-1 in their last meeting two weeks earlier, Feb. 5 in Fort Wayne. The Komets are 2-1-0-0 against Port Huron on Fort Wayne ice but trail in the series 3-4-0-0. The Hawks are 1-4-0-0 in their last five games after suffering two losses in three straight games against Flint over the weekend. Port Huron is idle until they visit Fort Wayne Friday.

Saturday the Komets finish the week in Dayton (20-26-3-1) at 7:30pm at Hara Arena. The Komets lead the series 4-3-0-0 after dropping the last meeting 2-1 in Fort Wayne Feb. 3. The Gems are 2-3-0-0 in their last five outings and trail Bloomington by five points in a battle for the last playoff spot in the IHL going into week 19. Dayton skates at Flint Friday before hosting the Komets Saturday.

Wild Wednesdays continue this week.....It's another Wild Wednesday at Komet Hockey this week! Wild Wednesdays continue when the Bloomington PrairieThunder return Wednesday at 7:30pm. Wild Wednesdays at Komet Hockey features various animals from the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo and $2.50 beers and $1 Pepsi's at Wednesday homet games. Wild Wednesdays will continue with two more in March and one in April.

Friday night Marathon Nights.....Friday nights are Marathon Nights at Komet home games. Fans can take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer with two fill-ups when the Komets host the Port Huron Icehawks this Friday, Feb. 19 at 8pm. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
