Generals Weekly Notes
GAME DATE CHANGE: The Generals, in conjunction with the Bloomington PrairieThunder and the IHL, have decided to reschedule the Tuesday, February 16th 10:30 AM game.
ON THE RECORD: Overall the Generals had a good weekend. The Generals concluded the weekend with a 2-1-0-0 record, all three against Port Huron, the second place team in the league. They played solid hockey each night and it paid off.
PARTY AT PERANI: The crowd Saturday night at Perani was the second largest of the season with just shy of 3,000 in attendance. The arena was decorated for the night's City Pride theme for Clio and Mt. Morris. Fans from each city were seated in their respective city sections. To top off the great attendance, the Generals put up a 3-1 victory.
The next City Pride Night is this Friday, Feb. 19th against Dayton when the Generals welcome everyone who lives/works/goes to school in or just visits Swartz Creek and Flushing to Perani to show their support for the Generals and pride in their city. Each side of the arena decorated with their school colors for the fun night, and there are great group prices for any group of 10 or more. Group must be arranged at least by noon on Friday in order to get special group pricing. Also, there are special group prices for any business or group that would like to host a table on the concourse during this game!
NEW FACES: The three newest Generals (Dan Lapointe, Bryan Nathe, and Chris Kovalcik) have been great additions to this squad thus far. In eight games played Lapointe has 5 assists (3 coming this past weekend against the IceHawks) and is a +5, Nathe has been great defensively earning a +4, while Kovalcik has added a big physical presence to the lineup in the six games he's laced up the skates.
SMART PLAY: Flint has had their share of marches to the penalty box, however they have done a great job of making sure someone from the opposing team is marching alongside them. In their three game series this past weekend, the Generals were in the box 11 times but gave Port Huron the man advantage only 6. Of those 6 penalty kills, the Generals successfully killed 5.
MOVING BACK TO TOP: After a few rough outings, star netminder Rob Nolan has started making the climb back to the top of the league. After falling to 6th in GAA, Nolan has moved up to 4th and is 3rd in save percentage (his.922 is tied with Tim Haun who's second) and will surely keep climbing.
~John Ronan needs just 2 games to reach career game number 300
~Pascal Rheaume is 4 points shy of reaching 600 total career points (regular season and post season combined)
~John Mori leads the league in shorthanded goals with 4
~The Generals are last in total GF with 124
FACEBOOK FRIDAYS: Friday, Feb. 19th's game against the Dayton Gems marks the return of Facebook Fridays! Followers of the Flint Generals Group on Facebook will be eligible for up to three (3) $5 END ZONE tickets for that Friday game. All fans have to do is become a follower of the Generals Group on Facebook- if they are not already- and print off the "Facebook Friday" photo and bring it with them to the Perani Arena Ticket Office when they purchase their tickets.
AROUND TOWN: Monday night Generals players will be playing games and interacting with the residents of Genesee Gardens, an independent living retirement community.
Wednesday, players will visit Atherton High School to talk about character building through athletics, what it takes to succeed, and the importance of academics.
Thursday Generals staff and players will be helping Lacure Elementary with their book distribution from 9am - 3pm. Later that same day players will be participating in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowling Challenge from 5pm - 6pm.
THE GENERALS WANT YOU: The Generals are currently accepting applications for volunteer ushers for all Generals home games. Ushers will receive free parking and two tickets for the game. If you love hockey and are looking for a fun work environment, visit our website at www.flintgenerals.com for further information and to fill out an application.
THIS WEEK ON THE ICE: Due to the rescheduling of Tuesday, Feb. 16th's 10:30 AM game, the Generals only have 3 games this week. But those 3 games are once again in 3 nights.
Friday the 19th they host the Dayton Gems. The Generals won the last contest when they paid a visit to the Gems down in Dayton. Flint still trails the Gems in the season series 3-6-0-1, so they look to close the gap with a big win.
Saturday the Gens head west to Muskegon for the first of two meetings between the teams this week. The last meeting went in favor of the Gens who pulled off the 4-2 upset but their last visit to Muskegon was lopsided, falling 8-0 to the Lumberjacks.
Sunday it is the 'Jacks who visit Perani, and the Generals look to repeat their last home performance against the league leaders.
All of the games this week are available for viewing through the B2 Networks or just listening live, both options are accessible on our website www.flintgenerals.com.
Tickets for the game on February 19th and all Generals home games for the 2009-10 season are available at the Perani Arena Ticket Office, by phone 810-744-0580 or through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com.
