Komets lead West into week 19

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets continue to lead the UHL's Western Conference after taking 4 points in 4 games played for week 18. The Komets improve to 35-16-2 on the season for 72 points and trail overall league leading Muskegon by 11 points while the Rockford IceHogs remain on the Komet's tail with 69 points.

This week the Komets again skate 4 games in 5 nights for the third consecutive week starting at home Wednesday against the Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm. It will be the 3rd of 5 visits this season by the Mallards and the 7th of 11 meetings. The Komets lead the series 4-2-0. The Komets were doubled-up by the Mallards in the last meeting 4-2 at Quad City Friday. Quad City is coming off a 6-1 home win Sunday over Elmira to improve to 8-2-1 in their last 11 outings and appear to be locked into 3rd place in the Western Conference.

Friday the Komets host Port Huron at 8pm for the 4th of 6 meetings this season. The Komets stopped the Flags 4-2 in the last meeting Feb. 7 at Fort Wayne to remain unbeaten this season by Port Huron 3-0-0. The Flags upended Bloomington in Port Huron 5-3 Saturday in their last game played and are idle until they travel to Fort Wayne Friday.

Saturday the Komets hit the road for the 4th and final trip of the season to Flint. The Generals clipped the Komets 6-5 at Fort Wayne in the last meeting Jan. 7. Flint is 11-5-3 in their last 19 games and 1-2-2 in their last 5. The Generals will skate at Bloomington Wednesday and host Muskegon Friday before welcoming the Komets to Perani Arena Saturday at 7:30pm.

Sunday the Komets head to Muskegon for the 4th of 7 meetings this season and the 2nd of 3 at Muskegon. The Komets lead the series 2-1-0 after stopping the league-leading Fury 5-3 Jan. 27 at Muskegon in the last meeting. The Fury leads the league in plus/minus with +357. Rockford is 2nd with +184, the Komets are 3rd with +96 and Quad City is the only remaining team in the UHL on the plus side with +16. Muskegon is 3-3-0 in their last 6 games and will face the Generals at Flint Friday and host Port Huron Saturday before facing the Komets in a 2pm matinee Sunday at L.C. Walker Arena.

Leading Komets....center J.C. Ruid continues to lead the Komets with 32 goals, 13 power play goals and improved to 2nd overall in the UHL with 70 points.....Guy Dupuis (D) leads with 43 assists and leads all UHL scorers with 29 power play assists.....David Hukalo (RW) and Ruid are tied for a team-high +14.....Kevin St. Pierre leads UHL goalies with 31 wins, a .925 save percentage and 2723:44 minutes....Mario Larocque leads UHL defensemen with 18 goals and 12 power play goals.

Komet streaks: Mario Larocque (D) is riding a 3-game point streak (2g, 2a) and Guy Dupuis (D) has points in his last 7 straight home games (2g, 10a) after passing an assist Sunday. Kevin St. Pierre (G) had a 7-game home winning streak snapped after suffering a 2-1 setback Sunday to Bloomington.

Milestones and records: Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre registered his 30th win of the season for the 5th time in his career Wednesday, Feb. 14 with a 4-3 win at Chicago. Saturday St. Pierre moved ahead of Joe Dimaline as the 2nd highest winning goaltender in the history of the UHL with his 166th UHL career win, a 5-3 victory over the visiting Chicago Hounds. Sylvain Daigle has the record for most career UHL wins with 187.....Pat Bingham coached his 200th UHL career game Wednesday 2/14 at Chicago.....Kevin Hansen (D) skated his 300th career game Sunday 2/18 vs Chicago.
