
Mallards Continue Playoff Charge

Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-The Mallards went 3-1-0 last week to improve to 26-20-6 on the year. The team earned a 2-1 shootout victory over Rockford on Valentine's Day before beating Fort Wayne 4-2 at The MARK last Friday. Saturday night, the IceHogs snapped a seven-game Mallards unbeaten streak when they scored with just 68 seconds left to secure a 3-2 victory. Quad City bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Elmira at The MARK.
The Mallards hit the road this week for a trip to Fort Wayne on Wednesday and a Friday night game in Kalamazoo. On Saturday night, the team is on home ice to host the Chicago Hounds. Sunday afternoon, the Mallards wrap up the weekend with a game in Bloomington.

The Mallards face the Komets for the second time in six days on Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. Quad City earned a 4-2 win over Fort Wayne last Friday at The MARK. Wednesday night's match-up marks the second of five meetings between the teams over the course of 20 days.

The Mallards make their final appearance of 2006-07 in Kalamazoo on Friday night. The Mallards are 2-1-1 this season vs. the Wings.

The Hounds return to The MARK on Saturday night. Chicago has earned wins in two of their first three trips to the Quad Cities this year.

The Mallards renew their rivalry with Bloomington on Sunday afternoon. Quad City is 6-0-2 on the year vs. the PrairieThunder. In their most recent meeting, Bloomington earned a 3-2 shootout win at The MARK on February 11th.

Duck Talk is back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge tonight. Defensemen Brent Currie and Nick Harloff and forward Matt Radoslovich join host Aaron Roof and Mallards Head Coach Brian Curran. The show begins at 6:00 p.m. at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Wednesday, February 14th - Rockford 1 at Quad City 2 - Shootout
The Mallards earned a 2-1 shootout win over Rockford on Wednesday night at The MARK. Nick Harloff netted the Mallards lone regulation goal when he scored his fourth goal of the season in the middle period. Patrick Nadeau and Sean Starke scored in the shootout to propel the Mallards to their first home ice win of the year vs. Rockford. Jason Tapp made 25 regulation saves before stopping four of five shooters in the shootout. In the first, the Hogs took a 1-0 lead on a Jason Notermann power-play goal. The tally stood up as the sole marker of the opening period. In the second frame, Harloff tied the game with a point shot through traffic. With the goal, Harloff established a new career high for goals in a season. The second-year blueliner has already established career highs for assists and goals. In the shootout, the Hogs took a 1-0 lead in the third round as Erick Lizon scored. Jason Tapp stoned the Hogs in the fourth and fifth rounds while Patrick Nadeau scored the equalizer in the fourth frame and Sean Starke netted the winner in the fifth round.
Friday, February 16th - Fort Wayne 2 at Quad City 4
The Mallards equaled their longest winning streak of 2006-07 with a 4-2 win over Fort Wayne on Friday night at The MARK. The win marked the seventh consecutive Quad City game without a loss. During the stretch, the team went 6-0-1. Jason Tapp earned first star honors in the win over Fort Wayne after making 29 saves and earning his 22nd win. In the first period, Quad City took a 1-0 lead on a tally by Luke Stauffacher. Stauffacher converted a feed from center Sean Starke for his 27th goal of the year. The Mallards penalty killers also played a crucial role in the opening frame as they held Fort Wayne's league-leading power play scoreless on four chances. In the second, the Mallards extended their lead to 3-0 on goals by Brett Pilkington and Patrick Nadeau. Pilkington scored following a length of the ice rush by Sergei Durdin. The skilled rearguard fed Pilkington in front of the Fort Wayne net as the rookie forward netted his 20th goal of the year. Nadeau's goal was scored following a nifty one-on-one move to beat Fort Wayne netminder Dan McWhinney. In the third period, Quad City opened up a four-goal lead when Brent Currie scored shorthanded with a delayed penalty called on the Komets. Currie's second goal of the year closed the scoring for the Mallards. The Komets struck twice in the final 10 minutes of the contest to cut the Mallards lead in half. Daniel Goneau scored on a goal-mouth scramble before Mario Larocque sent a point shot through traffic for his goal.
Saturday, February 17th - Quad City 2 at Rockford 3
A wild game on Saturday night in Rockford ended with the Hogs scoring a 3-2 win after netting the game winner with just 68 seconds left in regulation. The loss snapped a seven-game Quad City unbeaten streak in which the team went 6-0-1. The first period started with a bang as six fighting majors were issued in the first six seconds of play. Steve MacIntyre and Erick Lizon fought in a classic tilt just three seconds into the contest. MacIntyre landed several thunderous punches before Lizon connected with a flurry of punches. MacIntyre battled back to win the fight on a series of very strong left hands. Brent Currie and Robin Big Snake also fought just four seconds into the game followed by a fight between Luke Stauffacher and Kaleb Betts at the six second mark of the period. Once the smoke cleared there were a total of 40 penalty minutes assessed in the opening six seconds of the contest. At 10:40 of the first period, Kevin Ulanski netted the first goal of the night. Ulanski recorded a power-play marker for his 18th tally of the year to put the Hogs up 1-0. Sergei Durdin answered for the Mallards as he sent a point shot into the Rockford net with 2:13 left in the first while the Mallards were on a 5-on-3 power-play. The first period ended with the game tied at one. In the second, the Hogs re-took the lead on the only goal of the middle frame. Matt Gens netted a power-play marker just four minutes into the period to give the Hogs the lead at 2-1 after two periods. A dramatic third period featured goals for each squad. Justin Chwedoruk scored with 4:59 left with the Mallards on a power-play. Chwedoruk's 18th goal of the year tied the game at two. With just 68 seconds left in the contest, Mike Doyle scored on a rebound of a Matt Gens shot to secure the win for the Hogs. It was the 12th tally of the year for Doyle.
Sunday, February 18th - Elmira 1 at Quad City 6
The Mallards improved their February record to 7-1-1 with a 6-1 win over Elmira on Sunday at The MARK. Blake Stewart earned first star honors with a two-goal performance while goaltender Zach Sikich made 34 saves in the win. The Mallards took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Jami Yoder and Luke Stauffacher. Yoder sent a point shot into the Elmira net for his first goal of the year just 21 seconds into the game. Stauffacher added his 28th tally on a feed from Sean Starke at 4:01 of the opening period. In the second, Stewart scored his first goal of the game to open up a 3-0 lead. Marc Lefebvre netted the only Jackals goal of the game at 10:06 of the middle period before the Mallards roared back to score three consecutive goals before the frame closed. Stewart started the barrage with his second of the night. Jeff Petruic made it 5-1 when he scored a goal in his first game of the year at 13:43 of the second. Matt Radoslovich added the final tally to set the score at 6-1.
Player of the Week
Luke Stauffacer is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He recorded four points (two goals and two assists) in four games last week.
Goalie of the Week
Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He went 2-1-0 last week with a .928 save percentage and a 2.01 goals against average.
