
UHL names players of the week

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne Komets center J.C. Ruid has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Ryan Nie has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 18th, 2007.
Ruid completed the week with eight points (3g, 5a), two penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating in four games played. He tallied three assists, one on a power play, in a 4-3 win over Chicago on Wednesday. He scored a short-handed goal in a loss to Quad City on Friday, and he was the game's first star on Saturday with a two-goal, two-assist performance in a 5-3 victory over the Hounds. The 32-year-old native of Ballston Spa, New York currently leads the Komets in scoring with 70 points (32g, 38a) which also ranks second overall in the UHL. It is the second weekly honor for Ruid this season, and he has recorded a point in 13 of the last 15 games he's played.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Jarad Bourassa, Chicago forward Drew Otten, Elmira center Erik Anderson, Flint left wing Bobby Reynolds, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Muskegon right wing Rustyn Dolyny, Port Huron center Mark Cadotte, Quad City forward Luke Stauffacher and Rockford center Kevin Ulanski.
Nie recorded three straight shutouts on the week for a 3-0-0 record, a 0.00 goals against average (GAA) and a 1.000 save percentage (SPCT). Making 24 saves, he shut out Elmira on Wednesday, 3-0. He followed that performance with a 26-save blanking of Port Huron on Friday and a 24-save shutout against Flint on Saturday. It is the first weekly honor for the 21-year-old native of Nanticoke, Ontario. Nie has recorded shutouts in four of his past five starts, and he has currently held his opponent scoreless for 203:39 consecutive minutes.
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Brenden Cuthbert, Elmira's Dave Lemanowicz, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Muskegon's Ryan Cyr, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, Quad City's Jason Tapp and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.
