Komets Gain Shootout Point in Front of Sell-Out Crowd

Fort Wayne, IN -- Week 17 in review-- The Komets grabbed a point in a 2-1 shootout loss to the visiting Rapid City Rush in the only game of the week for Fort Wayne. The Komets improved to 22-17-4 and 48 points after 43 games.

A sell-out crowd of 10,479 was on hand for Harry Potter Tribute night in Fort Wayne as the Komets wore special wizard-themed Jerseys which were sold during a silent auction at the game. It was the first sell-out of the season and third 10,000-plus game of the year. The last Fort Wayne sell-out was Jan. 20, 2018, a 5-3 win over Allen.

Marco Roy scored the lone Komet goal at 13:58 of the first period. Rapid City's Richard Coyne knotted the game at 1-1 at 6:48 of the third to send the game into extra time. After a scoreless overtime, the Rush outscored the Komets in the shootout 2-0 for the win. Komet goaltender Eric Levine suffered the shootout loss making 26 saves on 27 shots.

Knoteables -- Goalie Levine is unbeaten in regulation three straight starts....With Roy's goal Saturday night, the forward has points in eight of his last nine games (5g, 6a).....Jake Kamrass' home point-scoring streak ended at a league-high 12 games (6g, 10a) and Kamrass has been even or better in plus/minus 10 straight games.

Komet leaders -- Brady Shaw, Jake Kamrass and Justin Hodgman each lead with 39 points.....Campagna leads with 21 goals, five game winners and 147 shots....Hodgman leads with 27 assists and 11 power play points....Kamrass leads with +10.....Taylor Crunk leads with 93 penalty minutes.

Heading for Newfoundland-- This week the Komets make the long trek to the Canadian island Newfoundland to face the Growlers in a three-game set at the Mile One Centre in St. John's. It's the only meetings of the season against the expansion Growlers. The three-game series starts Friday at 5:30pm Fort Wayne time (ET), 7pm Newfoundland time (NST). Game two is Saturday at 5:30pm ET and game three will faceoff at 2:30pm ET Sunday before the Komets make the 2,295 mile voyage back home. The Growlers lead the North division of the Eastern conference (fifth in the ECHL) with a 29-13-2 record and 60 points after 44 games and are 3-2-1 in their last six games. Newfoundland is coming off a split of two home games against Worcester and will host Brampton for a pair this Tuesday and Wednesday before welcoming the Komets Friday, Saturday and Sunday to complete a seven home-game stand.

Next home games -- After this weekend in Newfoundland, the Komets will travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30 start on Valentine's Day Thursday, Feb. 14. Then the Komets will launch a stretch of five home games in 10 nights starting Friday, Feb. 15 when Adirondack visits for an 8pm faceoff. Then the Komets are home for games on the 17th, 20th, 22nd and 24th before they get back on the road at the start of March.
