Fort Wayne Komets News Release


Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets continue to top the Western Division of the UHL after week 5 of the 2006-07 campaign. The Komets split a pair of games for the week to improve to 8-2-0 and lead the west with 16 points after 10 games.

Friday night the Komets dropped a 3-2 decision at Kalamazoo. Mario Larocque (D) and Bruce Richardson (C) scored goals for Fort Wayne while netminder Kevin St. Pierre allowed 3 goals on 42 Wing shots suffering his second loss of the season out of 9 starts.

Saturday the Komets returned home to host the Flint Generals. The Komets got 5 goals from 5 different players to turn back the Generals 5-2. Larocque, Bogdan Rudenko (RW), Daniel Goneau (LW), Jonathan Goodwin (RW) and K.J. Voorhees (RW) each tallied markers for the Komets. St. Pierre earned his 7th win of the season making 24 saves in front of the second largest Fort Wayne crowd of the season of 8,329.

This week the Komets travel to Rockford Wednesday for an 8:30pm start (Fort Wayne time). The Komets will host a double-header weekend starting with the Elmira Jackals Friday at 8pm. Saturday the Komets finish the week facing former Komet head coach Greg Puhalski and the Chicago Hounds at 7:30pm.

The Komets will host the Bloomington Prairie Thunder in the traditional Fort Wayne Thanksgiving game Nov. 23. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets early.

Larocque is the only UHL defenseman leading his team in points after 5 weeks of play with 17 (7g, 10a). Larocque leads UHL defensemen with 4 power play goals. Daniel Goneau (LW) leads the UHL with 6 power play assists.

Special K's.....the Komets lead the UHL with 24 power play goals in 88 chances after 10 games for a league-best 27.3% rating. The Komet's penalty kill ranks second with an 88.8% efficiency rating allowing only 9 power play goals against in 80 times short handed.

Streaking Komets......Mario Larocque (D) has a 4-game point streak and a current UHL high goal scoring streak (6g, 3a).....Guy Dupuis (D) has a 4-game point and assist streak (6a).....Bruce Richardson (C) is riding a 4-game point and assist streak (1g, 5a).....Komets have a 5-game home win streak, unbeaten at home in 5 games to date.

500 club.....Komet center and assistant coach Bruce Richardson appeared in his 500th pro game Saturday night 11/12/06 vs Flint.

Stingy starts and stuff.....only 4 of the 23 goals scored against the Komets after 10 games have been allowed in the first period.....Komets are off to their best start (8-2-0) since joining the UHL in 1999 when they were also 8-2-0 after the first 10 (last year after 10 the Komets were 3-5-2).....before this year, the best home opening win string the Komets put together was winning the first 2 home games in 2002 and 2004 (the Komets have currently won the first 5 home games of the season).....the Komets have 45 goals after the first 10, 3 goals shy of the record 48 after the first 10 games in 1999....on the flip side, the Komets have allowed a team low 23 goals after 10 games (second lowest was 28 in 2001).....the Komets power play is the best it's ever been after the first 10 Komet UHL games at 27.3%.....
