
Komets blast Mallards in home opener 8-3

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets celebrated their 55th home opener with an 8-3 win over the visiting Quad City Mallards Saturday night in front of 10,058 Fort Wayne fans. It was the 4th straight Komet home opener with an attendance of over 10,000. The Komets improved to 7-0-1 in UHL home openers and set many team records.
The Komets set a new record for most goals in a Fort Wayne UHL home opener with 8, most power play goals in a Komet UHL game with 6 and most goals for both teams in a Komet UHL home opener with 11. The Komets also held the Mallards to zero shots in the third period for a new record of least amount of shots in a Komet UHL period.
Winger Daniel Goneau led the Komets with 4 assists for a 4-point night. Jonathon Goodwin (RW) notched a pair of goals while J.C. Ruid (LW), Bogdan Rudenko (RW), Martin Gascon (C), Bruce Richardson (C), K.J. Voorhees (RW) and A.J. Bozoian (D) each added marks. Veteran Komet goaltender Kevin St. Pierre registered his second win of the season stopping 18 of 21 Quad City shots. It was St. Pierre's 3rd straight Fort Wayne home opener win.
The Komets improved to 2-1-0 on the season and are tied with Chicago and Rockford for first place in the Western Conference with 4 points. The Komets have 2 home games this weekend. Friday night Rockford visits for a 8:00 faceoff and Saturday night the Komets host the Bloomington Prairie Thunder at 7:30.

Komets power play tops.....the Komets lead the UHL with 7 power play goals in 24 chances after 3 games for a league-best 29.2% rating.
Hitting marks.....rookie center Martin Gascon scored his first pro goal in Saturday night's 8-3 home opening win against Quad City.....Bruce Richards (C) has 297 career points and 493 pro games played.....Bogdan Rudenko (RW) has appeared in 190 UHL career games.
Streaking Komets......Daniel Goneau (LW) has a 3-game point streak (2g, 4a, 6pts) and Bruce Richardson (C) is riding a 3-game point streak (1g, 4a, 5pts)......Kevin St. Pierre (G) 3 straight starts.
Komet Hockey on WOWO.....most of the Komet games will be broadcast on WOWO Radio AM 1190 this year with Bob Chase at the Fort Wayne microphone for his 54th consecutive season. Again this year, some games will be aired on WKJG/ESPN Radio AM 1380 as an alternative when conflicts occur. All games aired on radio will also be available via the internet at Comcast KometCast at www.komets.com .
Fill up at Marathon and earn Komet tickets.....the Komets Marathon Fill-Up Cards are again available this year at all participating area Marathon gas stations. Fans can earn a "buy 1, get 1 free" ticket offer, up to a $19 value, every time they fill up three times at Marathon. The first of 13 Friday night "Marathon Nights" at Komet Hockey is this Friday, Oct. 27 when the Komets host the Rockford IceHogs at 8:00.
