Magers records first shutout vs. Generals but drops contest to Fury

Hoffman Estates, IL. The Chicago Hounds battled the Flint Generals Friday night at Peranis Arena and Event Center. The game started well for the Hounds as they capitalized on a breakaway by Mike Zbriger at 4:31. The shooting gallery continued on Generals goalie Jason Muzzatti when right winger, Paul Caponigri netted a power-play goal at 11:16 putting the Hounds up by two.

The second period saw Zbriger get his second of the night on another power-play and former Notre Dame forward Matt Amado also sent one past Muzzatti to give the Hounds a comfortable 4-0 lead.

Marty Magers was the story of the third period. With Chicago resting comfortably on a four goal lead, Magers shut the door on 19 third-period shots by the Generals to record his second straight win and first shutout of the year.

Chicago continued their two-game road swing in Muskegon and Mike Zbriger continued his domination. He netted two goals for the second game in a row. The first goal came at 1:57 when the Fury turned the puck over and Zbriger fired it past goaltender, Ryan Cyr. The Hounds extended their lead when the former St. Lawrence forward scored again, this time on a power-play goal at 15:19 giving the team a two goal lead.

Chicago fell into penalty trouble as the game progressed and the high-powered Fury offense took over. Muskegon blue-liner, John Insana tallied the winning goal with the man advantage at the 12:48 mark of the second period and Muskegon went on to win 4-2. Magers stopped 43 of 47 shots in the contest.

The Chicago Hounds next game will take place against the IceHogs in Rockford on October 28th. Chicago defeated Rockford in the first game of the year by a score of 4-3.
