Hounds Set for Weekend Battles

March 23, 2007 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Chicago Hounds News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL. When the game of musical chairs in the UHL standings finally cease, the Hounds are hoping to have a seat when the music stops. Two teams will be on the outside looking in and Chicago has every intention on playing past the regular season in their inaugural year. In order to secure a spot, this weekend will play a major factor.

The first game of the weekend begins Friday night when the Hounds travel to Port Huron to take on the Flags. These two teams have only met twice this season with Chicago going 1-0-1. Chicago will be playing host to Port Huron March 28th in a re-make game from February 25th (which was cancelled due to inclement weather). The Flags and Hounds are both vying for a playoff birth and these two points will go a long way.

On Saturday night, the Hounds find their way back home when they play host to the Rockford IceHogs. In ten games this season, Chicago has managed a record of 3-6-1. Their latest game saw Rockford win, 6-4 with the winning goal scored by Kaleb Betts breaking a tie in the third period. The IceHogs last visited Chicago on March 7th when they were defeated by goaltender Brenden Cuthbert and the Hounds in a 1-0 shutout victory. This could be a potential first round match up and it will be the first of three more games versus these interstate and conference rivals. It will also be a giveaway night for Chicago when the team gives out 2000 puck binoculars to fans and someone will win a free cruise!

The Hounds will end the weekend playing a team that was once coached by current Hounds bench boss, Greg Puhalski. As the standings currently reflect, this would by the first round match-up if the playoffs started today. It has been over a month since these two teams battled. On February 17th, the Hounds fell to the Komets by a score of 5-3. The overall season series for Chicago is 3 wins and 6 losses. This game will mark the final time these two teams tangle in the regular season at Allen County arena. The Komets will visit the Sears Centre on the last day in March.
