Komets Acquire Embach, Martine from Gwinnett; Deal Hughes, Kwiet and Rights to Lyon

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Thursday that they have acquired forward Mike Embach and defenseman Nathan Martine in a trade with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.

Embach, 25, is a three-year pro after starting this season appearing in five games with Cincinnati before he was traded to Gwinnett. The left winger skated 11 games scoring six goals and 10 points with the Gladiators before his trade to Fort Wayne Thursday. Embach made his college debut in 2007-08 with Ferris State of the CCHA where he completed four seasons before making his pro debut in the AHL during 2010-11 where he appeared in five games with Texas. The Orland Park, Illinois native made his ECHL debut in 2011-12 with the Chicago Express before posting a career year with Cincinnati last season scoring 18 goals and 34 points in 55 games. Embach has accumulated ECHL career totals of 37 goals, 35 assists and 72 points in 131 games.

Martine (marr-TEEN), 25, is in his second pro season after making his rookie appearance last year skating six games with Reading in the ECHL. The Port Colbourne, Ontario native skated five seasons of juniors in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2008-09. Martine made his college debut with the University of Guelph in the OUAA in 2009-10 where he played four seasons. The defenseman began this season appearing in 16 games with Gwinnett before his trade to Fort Wayne Thursday.

In exchange for Embach and Martine, the Komets traded forward Bobby Hughes and defenseman Rob Kwiet along with the rights to forward Brett Lyon to Gwinnett. Hughes scored five goals, nine points and 12 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Komets while Kwiet registered seven assists and 10 penalty minutes in 20 games with Fort Wayne. Lyon began this season appearing in four games with Bakersfield before the Komets acquired him in a trade for cash Nov. 17. Lyon skated three games with the Komets before being placed on suspension Nov 25.

The Komets have two games on the docket for this weekend. Saturday they travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium. Sunday the Komets are home to host the Evansville IceMen at 5pm.

Teddy Bear Toss for charity Sunday-- The Komets' first annual Holiday Teddy Bear Toss is Sunday when the Evansville IceMen visit for a 5pm faceoff. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently-used teddy bears or other stuffed animals to be thrown onto the ice after the first Komet goal. The Disorderly Bear Den of Good Bears of the World will distribute each teddy bear and stuffed animal to abused, traumatized or at-risk children and lonely adults in the Fort Wayne area.

Wendy's Family Night this Sunday-- The Komets present Wendy's Family Night at every Sunday home game. Coupons for a Sundays 4-for-$28 ticket offer are available at Wendy's locations around the Fort Wayne area. Also, fans can bring their skates for a free open skate after each Sunday Family Night home game.
