LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (13-6-3-1) fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers (8-12-1-0), 4-3, in a shootout at the Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday night.
With the Eagles on their second power play of the night, forward Luke Fulghum tipped the puck over Wranglers netminder Travis Fullerton off of a pass from Eagles defenseman Kevin Young to give Colorado the 1-0 lead, 12:28 into the first frame.
After the Eagles took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission, Las Vegas forward Adam Hughesman found the back of the net for the Wranglers just 1:10 into the second frame to tie the score, 1-1. Just over one minute later, Wranglers forward Carlo Finucci beat Colorado goalie Marc Cheverie on a breakaway to put Las Vegas ahead, 2-1. It would then be the Eagles turn to score on a breakaway as forward Greg Gardner powered through a Wranglers defensemen to tie the score, 2-2. With just eight seconds left in the second, veteran forward Kevin Ulanski fired a shot from the top of the slot to score the Eagles third goal of the night and give them the 3-2 advantage.
Despite trailing 3-2 heading into the third period, the Wranglers would not let the game get away from them as forward Chris Francis evened the tally again at 3-3, 16:34 into the final stanza.
The 4-on-4 sudden death overtime was scoreless and the two teams headed into a shootout. Las Vegas forwards Francis and John Armstrong both found the back of the net while Fullterton denied all four Colorado shooters to give the Wranglers the 4-3 shootout win.
