Overtime Gets One, but Overtime Wins Get Two

Last weekend, the Wheeling Nailers extended their point streak to 12 consecutive games, while also going to overtime for the second and third times in a row. Although they were already guaranteed one point in each game, the Nailers made sure to grab the second points as well, defeating Reading 4-3 on Friday and Cincinnati 2-1 on Saturday. Friday night's win marked Wheeling's first in five tries against the Royals this season, while Saturday's triumph was the Nailers' first shootout victory in four games this season. This is the fourth time that Wheeling has had a point streak of at least 12 games in its history, with 14 serving as the team record.

Their Streak Got Snapped

The Elmira Jackals carried a season-high three-game winning streak into their game on Wednesday night, but that streak no longer exists, thanks to the Florida Everblades. Florida's Will MacDonald broke a 1-1 tie in the second period, and Trevor Cann made 22 saves, as the Everblades snuck past the Jackals, 2-1 at First Arena. Despite the setback, Elmira has earned at least one point in six of its last nine games, following a 1-6-0 stretch, which included a three-game sweep at the hands of the Nailers.

Rowney Returns, Carrier Clashes with Former Mates

The Nailers will have one familiar face and one new face in the lineup on Thursday. On Wednesday afternoon, forward Carter Rowney was loaned to Wheeling, after appearing in three games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Even with his recall, Rowney remains third on the Nailers in scoring, racking up six goals, seven assists, and 13 points in 15 games. Wheeling also added forward Alexandre Carrier, who appeared in six games with Elmira earlier this year. Last season, Carrier led the Trenton Titans with 102 penalty minutes and 14 fighting majors.

This Condo Handles Lots of Tenants

Wheeling goaltender Mike Condon has stared down plenty of shooters over the course of the season, having appeared in 15 of the team's first 21 games, as well as eight of the last nine. Although his time in the crease currently ranks fifth in the ECHL, Condon will have the opportunity to lead the league in saves on Thursday, as trails San Francisco's Tyler Beskorowany by 19. On Saturday night, Mike earned his first career shootout victory, turning aside all four shots taken by the Cincinnati Cyclones. The rookie out of Holliston, MA is expected to get the nod against Elmira's Maxime Clermont.

A Half Dozen for a Baker's Dozen

While the Nailers are in search of points in 13 consecutive games on Thursday, they will also be looking for their sixth win of the season series against the Jackals. Wheeling has won all five contests to this point, including three games decided by one goal at WesBanco Arena. The most recent meeting between the two sides took place on November 29th, when the Nailers picked up a 3-1 victory at First Arena. One of the keys to Wheeling's success has been its goaltending, which has allowed just eight goals on 187 shots. Dating back to last season, the Nailers have six straight wins against Elmira, matching the longest streak for either side in the 62-game all-time series.
