
ECHL Player of the Week Andrew Cherniwchan Heads to Providence

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that forward Andrew Cherniwchan has been called up to the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins.
Cherniwchan, 24, scored eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in 17 games with the Stingrays this season including four goals and two assists in his last two contests, earning him ECHL Player of the Week honors. The Hinton, Alberta, native joined the Stingrays at the end of the 2011-12 campaign and totaled 44 points (22 goals, 22 assists) in 72 games. Prior to turning pro, Cherniwchan completed a four-year collegiate career at Northern Michigan University picking up 84 points (35 goals, 49 assists) in 146 games.
The Stingrays wrap up a six-game road trip on Friday, December 13 against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, December 14 to take on the Solar Bears at 7:05 p.m. on College Night and Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Debi's Kids.
The Stingrays will wear special Clemson University jerseys and auction them LIVE after the contest. Charleston native and "Survivor: One World" finalist Chelsea Meissner will drop the ceremonial first puck. Bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game to throw on the ice after the Stingrays score their first goal for the annual Teddy Bear Toss!
