Knights to Honor Recent War Veterans on Memorial Day

(Fort Mill, SC) - Earlier this week, the Charlotte Knights announced plans for their Military Appreciation games on both Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) at Knights Stadium. On Monday, all veteran and active Military members can receive a free ticket by showing a valid Military ID.

Today, the Knights are pleased to announce that on Memorial Day the team will honor a Military member from each of the most recent wars, including 91-year-old World War II Veteran Warren Slater. Slater served from March 1942 to January 1947 in the United States Army Air Corp (USAAC), from February 1947 to November 1947 with the Flying Tigers, and from December 1947 to April 1965 in the United States Air Force.

Here is a list of the recent war veterans that will be honored on Memorial Day and throwing out a ceremonial first pitch:

- Afghanistan - Sgt. Ryan Bridges - Marines

- Iraq - Sgt. Vargas - Marines

- Gulf War - Brian Jarvis - Army, Master Sergeant

- Panama - Mo Fregia - Army, First Sergeant

- Vietnam - Leonard Philemon - Army

- Korea - Henry Revels - Army, 45th Division B Company

- World War II - Warren Slater - Air Force

Monday's game will also feature a special on-field Promotion Ceremony of Lt. Neal Wendt. First Lieutenant Neal R. Wendt is a Flight Commander, U.S. Air Force Central Command (AFCENT); 609th Air Communications Squadron (ACOMS), Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina. Knights outfielder Greg Golson is a friend of Lt. Wendt and will be a part of the on-field ceremony.

Gates are set to open at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. Following the game will be a spectacular fireworks show. On Monday, gates will open at 1:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
