Knights Clobber IronPigs 11-3 on Friday

(Fort Mill, SC) -- Three RBI apiece for Greg Golson and Ray Olmedo and 10 runs in the middle innings propelled the Charlotte Knights to an 11-3 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs Friday night at Knights Stadium. The Knights have won the first two games of the four-game series.

Golson led off the game for the Knights with a long, towering home run over the left field wall to put Charlotte up 1-0. In the fourth inning, Lehigh Valley took the lead with a leadoff double from Erik Kratz and two more hits to make it 2-1.

The Knights (26-23) took the lead back in the fifth on a Dallas McPherson three-run home run. It was McPherson's first home run since coming off the disabled list last week.

Charlie Shirek (5-3, 3.84) went six innings for Charlotte and gave up three runs and walked none to get the victory. Jhan Carlos Marinez struck out four in two innings of relief for the Knights.

Olmedo had a two-RBI base hit in the seventh to push the margin to 10-3. Olmedo was 3-4. Golson followed with another RBI-base hit. Golson was 3-3 with two sacrifices, a home run, an RBI-triple, and an RBI-single.

The two teams will be back at it on the diamond at Knights Stadium on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. RHP Matt Zaleski (1-2, 7.99) is set to pitch for Charlotte with RHP Tyler Cloyd (4-1, 1.97) opposing for Lehigh Valley.
