Charlotte Knights News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - The Knights capped off their impressive eight-game road trip with a solid showing in Buffalo, NY on Monday night.
Jim Gallagher hit a home run, had four RBIs, Pedro Hernandez (1-0, 3.71) struck-out six batters over five innings, and the Charlotte Knights completed a four-game series sweep over the Buffalo Bisons with a 9-6 win on Monday night from Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY.
The first place Knights concluded their eight-game road trip with their sixth win on the trip and head home to Knights Stadium with an impressive 60-44 record. The 6-2 road trip propelled the Knights to a season-high seven-game lead over second place Norfolk.
After scoring two runs in the first and one in the third, Charlotte's bats broke out in the fifth inning with a five-run offensive burst. With two on, two runs already in, and two outs in the inning, Gallagher launched a three-run home run off Buffalo reliever Justin Hampson. It was Gallagher's first home run of the season. He finished the game 1-3 with the home run and four RBIs.
In all, the Knights belted out 12 hits and went on to win their fourth-straight game. Dallas McPherson, who was awarded the International League's Player of the Week award earlier in the day, went 2-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. McPherson, who turned 32 on Monday, now has a hit in eight of his last 10 games.
As for Hernandez, he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings to earn his first win of the season with the Knights. In his first game back with the Knights after making his Major League debut with the Chicago White Sox on July 18, Hernandez walked two and fanned six.
Brian Omogrosso allowed one hit over two scoreless frames to earn his second save of the season.
Charlotte will now return home to Knights Stadium to begin an eight-game homestand on Tuesday. The Knights will host the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees in game one of a four-game series on Tuesday.
