Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, SC- The Charlotte Knights were unable to battle back against the visiting Richmond Braves as they fell in the final game of the four game series 6-2.

The Braves didn't waste anytime as they took the early lead in the first inning after third baseman, Carlos Mendez, hit an RBI single to right field, sending Cesar Crespo home.

Both teams remained quite until the eighth inning when the drama began to unfold. With the bases loaded, Braves second baseman, Jonathan Schuerholz, reached base on a throwing error by Knights shortstop, Pedro Lopez, allowing Bill McCarthy to score. Dax Norris and David Kelton both scored on Jamal Strong's single to center field, giving the Braves the lead 4-0. With the bases intentionally loaded, Mendez hit a single to right field, sending Schuerholz and Strong home, increasing the lead 6-0.

The Knights attempted a comeback in the bottom of the eighth when Ruben Rivera reached first with an infield hit to shortstop and was able to advance to second on a throwing error by Crespo. With the bases loaded following the consecutive walks of Chris Stewart and Jerry Owens, Pedro Lopez brought Rivera home on a base hit to right field. Casey Rogowski's then grounded out to second which scored Chris Stewart from third and gave the Knights their only other run of the contest.

Knights starting pitcher, Stephen Randolph, took his first loss of the season, despite only giving up one run while pitching five innings.

Starting pitcher, Chuck James, earned his first win of the season with the Braves. James pitched 6.2 innings without giving up any runs.

The Knights will look to recover tomorrow night against the Buffalo Bisons as right handed pitcher, Tim Redding, will face off against Buffalo right hander, Jeremy Guthrie. First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m.
