Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Pawtucket scored early and often to post a 6-3 win over Indianapolis Thursday evening at Victory Field. The Red Sox raced out to a five-run advantage after three frames, scoring two runs in the first, two in the second and two more in the third.
Pawtucket improves to 28-31 overall, while the Indians fall to 33-26. Pawtucket still occupies fifth place in the International League's West Division, while Friday will be the Tribe's 48th straight day atop the IL West.
The Red Sox cracked the scoreboard with two runs in the first. RF David Murphy drew a two-out walk and scored ahead of LF Dustan Mohr, who launched his first homer of the season -- a 405-foot shot to left field.
The Pawtucket cushion grew to 4-0 in the second. SS Alejandro Machado drew a base on balls. CF Adam Stern followed with a single through the right side. Moments later, Murphy smoked a triple to the right-center gap as Stern and 2B Dustin Pedroia came plateward.
The Red Sox added a pair of insurance runs in the third. 1B Hee-Seop Choi tagged his sixth roundtripper of the campaign -- a solo shot to right. 3B Trent Durrington added a double to right, moved to third on a Tribe miscue and came around to score on C Ken Huckaby's single through the left side.
Indianapolis used the long ball to score all three of its runs. 3B Chris Truby whacked his first homer as a member of the Indians in the second -- a solo shot to left. DH Raul Gonzalez followed by smashing his fourth dinger of the season in the sixth -- a two-run bomb to left.
Pawtucket RHP Matt Ginter (7.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) improved to 3-7 with the win, while LHP Craig Breslow (2.0 IP, 2 SO) collected his fifth save of the campaign.
Indians LHP Sean Burnett (2.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 BB, 1 SO) fell to 4-5 with the loss. Five Indianapolis relief pitchers combined for 6.2 scoreless frames after Burnett's departure.
Stern, Murphy and Choi notched two hits apiece for the visitors.
Indianapolis heads to Louisville for a brief two-game series. LHP Tom Gorzelanny is scheduled to start for the Indians in Friday's opener at 7:15 p.m., while RHP Tom Shearn is expected to get the nod for the Bats.
The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Friday's pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.
