TONIGHT'S GAME: The fourth of a four game series and the eighth of 16 meetings with the Knights, the fourth of eight at Knights Stadium. The Braves are 2-5 vs. the Knights, 1-2 on the road. Game four of an eight game road trip. Richmond is 1-2. The Braves were 8-8 vs. the Knights last season, 4-4 in Charlotte. This is the 21st of 48 games vs. South Division opponents, Richmond is 7-13 vs. the South. The 11th of 24 road games vs. South Division opponents (Richmond is 4-6). Braves are 103-119 vs. Charlotte all-time. The Braves are third in the South, 17.5 and a half games behind first place Charlotte. The Knights lead the division by 12 games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Knights beat the Braves 6-3 Wednesday at Knights Stadium. The Knights scored three first inning runs to beat the Braves for the second straight night. Ernie Young doubled two runs home in the first to put the Knights in front to stay. Young later scored on a throwing error to make it 3-0. Ryan Sweeney homered in the third to give Charlotte a 4-0 lead. Richmond battled back in the fourth. Carlos Mendez chased a run home with a double and Bill McCarthy slapped an RBI single to cut the Knights lead to 4-2. Charlotte answered right back in the home half on an RBI single by Sweeney to bump their lead back to 5-2. Scott Thorman continued his torrid hitting with a sixth inning home run, his 14th, to again trim Charlotte's lead to two. The Knights added one more run in the eighth on an RBI ground ball b Jorge Velandia. Heath Phillips earned the win. Jeff Farnsworth picked up a save. Ricardo Rodriguez took the loss. Mendez and McCarthy had two hits each for Richmond. Sweeney had three hits for the Knights.
ON THE ROSTER FRONT: 3B Martin Prado was placed on the DL retroactive to June 5. The Braves now have an active roster of 23 (12 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and four outfielders) plus one MLB rehab. Prado joins Wes Timmons and Anthony Lerew on the DL. The Braves have made 58 roster moves this season.
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Scott Thorman has hits in nine straight games (14-34 .412). Thorman has knocked in runs in eight straight games. He can equal the club season long hitting streak with a hit tonight. Bill McCarthy has hits in eight straight starts. Martin Prado has hits in five straight games (9-21 .429). James Jurries six game hitting streak ended last night. RHP Phil Stockman has worked his last 16 innings in nine appearances without allowing a run and permitting just three hits. The Braves bullpen streak of 16 straight scoreless innings ended last night. Braves relievers have gone 17 straight innings without allowing an earned run. The Braves have hit home runs in a season high five straight games.
FOLLOWING THE LEADERS: Scott Thorman is sixth in the league in hitting (.314). He is second in home runs (14) and fourth in RBI (39). He is tied for the IL lead in hits (69). The Braves are second in the IL in stolen base percentage behind Charlotte. They have swiped 46 and have been caught 14 times (77.9%). Their 14 caught stealings is the fewest in the IL. The Braves four wins when trailing after eight innings is tops in the International League. The Braves seven shutouts is tied for second in the IL.
