
Braves gain split with first place Knights

Ft. Mill, SC - The Richmond Braves beat the Charlotte Knights 6-2 Thursday at Knight's Stadium. The Braves erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to earn a split of their four game series with Charlotte.
The Braves Carlos Mendez knocked in a run with a first inning single to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. That score stood until the eight inning. In the eighth the Braves blew the game open. Jonathan Schuerholz ground ball was misplayed, allowing a run to score. Jamal Strong knocked in two runs with a single to give the Braves a 4-0 lead. Mendez chased in two more runs with a single to make it 6-0. The Knights averted a shutout with two runs in the home half. Pedro Lopez produced a run with a single and Casey Rogowski knocked in a run with a ground ball.
Chuck James worked 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. Phil Stockman worked two scoreless innings to close it out. Stephen Randolph took the loss. Mendez had three hits for the Braves.
The Braves open a four game series with Pawtucket starting Friday at 7:05. Richmond returns home June 13 vs. Louisville.
