Charlotte Knights News Release

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Despite a valiant, late-inning effort, the Charlotte Knights fell just short to the Durham Bulls in game five of the six-game series on Saturday night. The Knights dropped the game by a score of 6-5 to the Bulls in 10 innings.

The Knights pushed the game into extra innings thanks to a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning by catcher Carlos Pérez. With the game tied at 4-4, the Bulls charged back to score two runs in the top of the 10th inning off Charlotte reliever Lane Ramsey (1-1, 3.55). Ramsey would end up being charged with the loss.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Knights continued to battle and scored a run to pull to within one run, down 6-5. Tyler Neslony singled home D.J. Burt in the bottom of the 10th inning to make it a 6-5 game. After Raudy Read singled to give the Knights a runner on first base with one out, Micker Adolfo grounded into a game-inning double play -- a close play at first base.

The loss was Charlotte's fourth in the series and the two teams will conclude the six-game series on Sunday night.

Charlotte jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the first two innings of the game on Saturday night. Pérez drove home Charlotte's first run of the game in the first inning on a sacrifice-fly. In the second, Lenyn Sosa connected on an RBI single to give the Knights a 2-0 lead.

RHP Lincoln Henzman started the game for the Knights and was sharp over the first three innings. He allowed just one hit over three scoreless innings. Henzman, who did not factor in the decision, also struck-out four batters.

The Bulls added a run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI groundout off the bat of Luke Raley. Durham then took the lead with a two-run eighth inning and added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a solo home run from Ruben Cardenas.

Charlotte reliever Declan Cronin allowed two runs (one earned) in the top of the eighth inning.

Offensively for the Knights, third baseman Zach Remillard had a solid offensive day. He went 3-for-4 with one run scored and a walk. Blake Rutherford and Lenyn Sosa also chipped in with two hits apiece in the game five loss to the Bulls.

The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 5:35 p.m. from Truist Field. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. The game will also air live on My 12 WMYT.
