IL1 Toledo Mud Hens

Knights Cruise in Lobstein's Rehab Start

August 15, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Headed into game two against the Charlotte Knights, the Mud Hens sent a familiar face to the hill. Kyle Lobstein took to the mound on Saturday night in his first game back since being placed on the Detroit Tigers DL earlier this season with shoulder soreness. Lobstein is not a stranger to pitching in Toledo as the southpaw spent his entire 2014 season in the Hens rotation going 9-11 with a 4.07 ERA.

It was the Hens' offense getting on the board first in the bottom of the third, as Corey Jones doubled on a ground ball to left field, scoring Mike Hessman. The double was Jones' 15th of the season as the lefty is hitting a team high .286. Bryan Holaday followed the Jones' RBI with two of his own on another double scoring Jones and Marc Krauss. The 3-0 lead padded Lobstein's first two scoreless frames.

However, the Knights had an answer for the Toledo scoring as they put up a five spot of their own off Lobstein in the third. The inning was highighted by the 18th double of the season from Matt Davidson scoring Drew Garcia and J.B. Shuck. Lobstein's final line was not an encouraging one for the Hens nor the Tigers' organization as the lefty exited after just 2.1 innings surrendering three earned on five hits with three walks and four punchouts. The Hens cut the 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the seventh as Dixon Machado brought home Bryan Holaday on an RBI bases loaded force out. Mike Hessman continued to stay red hot at the plate with a 3-4 day at the plate and two runs scored.

The Toledo lineup was just 5-13 with runners in scoring position, as Kyle Drabek picked up the win for Charlotte, and Lobstein was tagged with the loss.

The Hens are back in action on Sunday for a 6:00pm start against Charlotte in the final game of the series. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
