Chiefs' Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Bisons
August 15, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release
The Syracuse Chiefs saw their 11-game win streak come to an end on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium with a 4-0 loss to the Buffalo Bisons. Taylor Hill had a strong outing in his first start off the Disabled List. However, the Bisons' pitching staff shut out the Chiefs to stop the Syracuse streak at 11 games.
Buffalo (62-59) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning against Syracuse starter Hill. With one out, Ezequiel Carrera doubled into the right-field corner. After a groundout advanced Carrera to third, Matt Hague drove in his league-leading 83rd run with a single to center to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead.
Hill pitched well in his first start off the Disabled List for Syracuse (54-68). The right-hander hurled five innings against the Bisons and allowed only one run, four hits and two walks while striking out four. Hill had been sidelined since August 2nd, when he was hit with a line drive in the sixth inning against Rochester.
Buffalo starter Chad Jenkins outdueled Hill through five and kept the Chiefs' bats silent in his eighth start of the season for the Bisons. Jenkins was perfect through four innings before Matt Skole scorched a double to right-center field to lead off the fifth. The right-hander allowed only two hits in five innings while striking out four.
The Bisons added three insurance runs to their lead in the top of the eighth inning against Juan Gutierrez. With two outs, Chris Heisey walked and Ty Kelly singled to put runners on the corners. Then, George Kottaras drove in Heisey with an RBI single to right to give Buffalo a 2-0 advantage. Next, Andy Burns drove in Kelly from third with an infield single to short. The next batter, Munenori Kawasaki, capped off the rally with a RBI single to center field for a 4-0 Buffalo lead.
The Chiefs and Bisons face off in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. Syracuse sends right-hander Bruce Billings to the mound against right-hander Todd Redmond for Buffalo. The game is set to start at 1:05 p.m.
