Bats Drop Sixth Consecutive Loss, 1-0 to Tides

LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (58-64) dropped their sixth consecutive loss, 1-0 to the Norfolk Tides (70-50). After tonight the Bats are 13-5 when playing on Saturday, 7-2 at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bats and Tides went five scoreless innings until Tides' first basemen, Christian Walker sent one out onto the patio deck in the top of the sixth to make it a 1-0 game. That was the only run of the game as the Tides had nine hits and the Bats just two.

Right-hander Donovan Hand (1-5, 4.73) went three innings for the Bats, gave up four hits, no runs and walked two. Right-hander Miguel Celestino (L, 0-5, 3.52) relieved Hand and took the loss tonight.

Norfolk's lefty Chris Jones (W, 8-6, 2.85) went eight innings, gave up only two hits, no runs, no walks and struck out four in a solid outing. Right-hander Pedro Beato came on in relief for Jones in the ninth inning to earn his 13th save as Norfolk swept the Bats 1-0.

The Bats and Tides will finish the series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. On the hill for Louisville is righty Michael Lorenzen (2-1, 2.84), optioned from Cincinnati on Thursday. For Norfolk, right-hander Elih Villanueva (3-1, 4.28). This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
