Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - June 14, 2007 - The Charlotte Knights were unable to generate scoring chances against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday. The team suffered a 9-3 loss to the Yankees in the first game of a four game set.
Charlotte left 7 men on base, with one of the few highlights being a solo home run by right fielder Kenny Kelly. For Kelly it was his second consecutive game with a home run. The team's pitching didn't help the cause as starter Vladimir Nunez struggles allowing 6 runs in 5.2 innings of work. For Nunez it was his 8th loss of the season, his record falls to 1-8.
Despite the loss, Jason Bourgeois extended his hitting streak to 13. Bourgeois has been on a tear lately and is showing no signs of slowing down. His hitting streak is the longest of the season for the Knights.
Newly acquired infielder Earl Snyder from Louisville debuted for the Knights with a ninth-inning hit in an effort to come back from a 9-2 deficit. Snyder was signed prior to Thursday's game. The Knights placed infielder/outfielder Craig Wilson on the disabled list.
The Knights continue their series against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees on Friday at Knights Stadium. Left hander Heath Phillips (4-5, 6.21 ERA) will start for the Knights, while Steven White (0-1, 6.75 ERA) will start for the Yankees.
The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. For ticket or event information, please contact the Knights front office at (704) 357-8071 or (803) 548-8050 or visit our website at www.charlotteknights.com for more information.
