Bisons Game Notes

June 14, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Norfolk Tides in the first game of a four-game series from Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a rare off-day on the road after a 3-0 victory over the Braves Tuesday night. On the mound tonight will be LHP Jeremy Sowers. The southpaw will make his 2007 Bisons debut after beginning the season with the Cleveland Indians. Norfolk will counter with LHP Garrett Olson.

SOWERS RETURNS: LHP Jeremy Sowers is back with the Buffalo Bisons. The southpaw began the 2006 season with the team and dominated the International League. At the time of his promotion on June 23, 2006, his 1.39ERA was the lowest mark in all of Triple-A baseball. He was 9-1 in 15 starts with a pair of complete-game shutouts. He allowed just one home run in 97.1 innings of work with Buffalo and was the Bisons 2006 Most Valuable Pitcher.

CHART TOPPER: Ben Francisco is coming off of back-to-back multi-hit performances (leads the Bisons with 24). The outfielder is now 2nd on the International League batting charts as his .338 average is behind only Indianapolis' Yurendell de Caster. Francisco is also 2nd in the IL in hits (75) and fifth in runs scored (39). He leads the Bisons with 14 stolen bases.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS: Right behind Francisco is Ryan Mulhern. The first baseman is currently 5th in the IL in batting average (.324) after hitting in 10 of his last 11 games (.429, 15-35). Mulhern is tied for the top spot in the league in slugging percentage (.571), thanks in large part to his team-high 20 doubles and 10 home runs.

HEATING UP: Andy Marte has hit safely in eight of his 10 games. Since June 4, the third baseman has hit .387 (12-31) with three doubles, four home runs and 11RBI. Despite playing just 26 games, Marte's seven home runs ties him for 3rd on the Bisons with outfielder Brad Snyder. Snyder hit his seventh in Tuesday's victory against Atlanta.

ROSTER MOVE: The Bisons also welcome RHP Jensen Lewis to the team today. Lewis was 2-0 with a 1.85ERA and a save with Double-A Akron (39.0IP, 27H, 12R, 8ER, 13BB, 49K). He had 18 consecutive scoreless outings, April 26-June 10. LHP Jason Stanford (4-1, 3.41) had his contract purchased by the Cleveland Indians today.
