June 14, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that pitcher Jeremy Sowers has been added to the active roster and will start tonight against the Norfolk Tides at Harbor Park (7:15 p.m.).

In other roster moves, reliever Jensen Lewis joins the Bisons bullpen as starter Jason Stanford had his contract purchased by Cleveland. Catcher David Wallace was transferred to Double-A Akron on Wednesday.

Sowers, 24, dominated the International League for the first two months of the 2006 season. In 15 starts with the Bisons, he was 9-1 with a 1.39ERA. At the time of his Major League promotion on June 23, he was tied for 1st in the IL in wins and shutouts (2). His 1.39ERA was the lowest mark in all of Triple-A baseball. He was the Topps/International League Player of the Month for May (4-0, 0.88ERA), and allowed just one home run in 97.1 innings of work with the Herd. After the season, he was named the Bisons Warren Spahn Most Valuable Pitcher.

Sowers finished his 2006 campaign with Cleveland, going 7-4 with a 3.57ERA in 14 starts (88.1IP, 85H, 36R, 35ER, 20BB, 35K). The southpaw began the 2007 season with the Tribe and was 1-6 with a 6.93 ERA (62.1IP, 79H, 48ER, 19BB, 19K) before being optioned to Buffalo.

Lewis, 23, has spent the entire 2007 season with the Double-A Akron Aeros and was 2-1 with a 1.85ERA and 1 save in 24 relief outings (39.0IP, 27H, 12R, 8ER, 13BB, 49K). He posted 18 consecutive scoreless outings from April 26 - June 10 (31.0IP, 34K).

Stanford is back with Cleveland for the first time since making the club out of Spring Training in 2004. He spent all of 2007 with the Bisons and was 4-1 with a 3.41 ERA in 12 games (68.2IP, 62H, 30R, 26ER, 25BB, 43K). He led the Bisons in ERA (3.41), innings pitched (68.2), strikeouts (43) and was 2nd on the team in wins (4). The only player to appear in seven consecutive seasons in the Bisons Modern Era, Stanford is 5th on the Modern charts in wins (24) and third in strikeouts (276).

Stanford is expected to start for Cleveland tonight in Florida against the Marlins.

Wallace was hitting .115 (11-96) with three home runs and four RBI in 33 games with the Herd. The catcher was 3rd in the IL in throwing out 40.9% (9CS, 13SB) of would-be base stealers.
