Charlotte Knights News Release
(NORFOLK, VA) - Shortstop Yolbert Sánchez drove home two runs in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Charlotte Knights to a 6-4 win over the Norfolk Tides on Saturday night in game five of the six-game series from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The win was Charlotte's first of the series.
With the Knights trailing the Tides 4-3 after seven innings, Sánchez played the hero in the top of the eighth inning. Already with an RBI single in the game back in the top of the third inning, Sánchez ripped a go-ahead, two-run single off Norfolk RHP Louis Head (1-1, 3.86) to give the Knights a 5-4 lead. Head was charged with the loss in the game. Sánchez finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Knights tacked on an insurance run thanks to an RBI double by center fielder Mark Payton, his team-high 91st RBI of the season. With that RBI, Payton moved into a tie for 10th place with Jeff Liefer on Charlotte's single-season RBI list. The double was also his team-high 29th of the season. RHP Kade McClure (3-4, 5.27) earned the win despite allowing a run in the top of the seventh inning. RHP Matt Foster recorded the final three outs in the ninth inning to earn his first save of the season with the Knights.
Charlotte right fielder Micker Adolfo also had a strong night at the plate. Adolfo launched his 14th home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth inning off Norfolk starter Bruce Zimmerman. Lenyn Sosa, Xavier Fernández and Carlos Pérez also chipped in with two hits apiece for the Knights.
The Knights will conclude the six-game road series against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) from Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is on tap for 1:05 p.m. from the home of the Tides. Fans can listen to the game on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com.
