Buffalo Bisons News Release

A five-run sixth inning for Syracuse lifted the Mets to an 8-3 victory over the Bisons, Saturday evening from NBT Bank Stadium.

Syracuse's game-deciding rally encapsulated the game as a whole as the Mets used their power and miscues by the Bisons in the field to break open a close game. With a back-and-forth game tied at three, Syracuse opened the sixth with a lead-off walk by Daniel Palka before Yolmer Sanchez clubbed a two-run homer down the right-field line. Sanchez's 10th homer of the season and first with the Mets gave the Thruway Series rival a 5-3 lead.

Sanchez hit nine home runs in 78 games with Worcester to begin the season.

Then with one on and one out, the Mets put the game out of reach with some help from the Bisons defense. Gosuke Katoh's roller up the first base line was bobbled by Bisons reliever Kyle Johnston and Deven Marrero followed with a single off the glove of John Aiello at first base to give Syracuse a 6-3 lead.

After Jake Mangum drew a walk to load the bases, Herd reliver Griffin Foster bounced a pitch to the plate that couldn't be handled by Chris Bec to allow another run to score. The fifth Syracuse run scored thanks to another infield single off a Bisons' glove as top Mets' prospect Francisco Alverez lined a ball that couldn't be handled by shortstop, Eric Stamets.

Despite four hits and five base runners over the final three innings, the Bisons couldn't narrow the deficit before falling for the second straight time to the Mets.

Syracuse scored first on Saturday night, two batters into the bottom half of the first inning. Mangum singled to right and Dominic Smith hit a two-run homer off Brandon Eisert to open the scoring. The Bisons fought back with a two-run double from Cullen Large in the fourth inning, placed perfectly down the left field line.

Two fielding errors from Otto Lopez in the bottom half of the fourth allowed Syracuse to retake the lead before Aiello rolled a two-out RBI-single through the infield in the top of the sixth to tie the game at six.

The Bisons and Mets will face one more time on Sunday (1:05 p.m.) for the Herd returns home Tuesday for the start of Fan Appreciation Week, presented by Humana, for the final six games at Sahlen Field this season.
