Charlotte Knights News Release
(LOUISVILLE, KY) - The Charlotte Knights pounded out 11 hits and LHP Nate Fisher was sharp over five innings to help the Charlotte Knights beat the Louisville Bats by a score of 6-5 on Sunday in the finale of the six-game series from Louisville Slugger Field in Louisville, KY. The win was Charlotte's second in as many days.
Fisher (1-2, 2.78) earned his first win of the season after he tossed five strong innings for the Knights in Sunday's finale. Fisher, who tossed six shutout innings against the Bats on Tuesday, allowed just one run on five hits over five innings on Sunday. RHP Nick Padilla notched his first save of the season after he recorded the final four outs of the game. Padilla had two strikeouts and allowed just one walk.
Offensively, second baseman Nate Mondou continued his hot streak. Mondou extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games and reached base twice in Sunday's game. Outfielder Víctor Reyes, the team's leading hitter, went 2-for-4 with his team-leading 13th RBI of the season. Catcher Evan Skoug and shortstop Erik González drove home two runs apiece in the win.
The Knights scored first on Sunday and held a 6-1 lead until the bottom of the eighth inning. Louisville battled back in the eighth inning to make it a one-run game thanks to home runs from Matt Reynolds and Henry Ramos. The Bats put up four runs in the eighth inning off Charlotte reliever Frank German. Still, the late-inning scoring efforts by the Bats fell short on Sunday.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening up a six-game homestand on Tuesday at Truist Field against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. from the Queen City on Tuesday.
