Wings Fall to Norfolk Sunday, 17-7

The Rochester Red Wings took on the Norfolk Tides Sunday afternoon for the final game of the six-game set. RHP Franklyn Kilome got the nod for the Wings.

Norfolk jumped on the Wings early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first. The Tides went on to score 14 more unanswered runs over the next three innings before DH Jake Alu put Rochester on the board with a three-run home run in the fifth.

The Red Wings added two more runs in the sixth to cut into the lead on an RBI single to left from SS Richie Martin, and a C Onix Vega double play that drove in a run. In the eighth, CF Derek Hill drove in a run with an RBI single, and to cap off the scoring, 3B Chad Pinder scored on a sacrifice fly from RF Nomar Mazara in the ninth to make the final score 17-7.

Rochester's late offense was sparked by Hill, who went 4-for-4 in the contest. Only two Wings went hitless against the Tides, as Hill, 2B Darren Baker (2-for-5), and LF Franklin Barreto (2-for-4) tallied multiple hits.

RHP Franklyn Kilome (1-3, 19.64) started on the mound for the Wings and suffered the loss, working one inning, allowing three runs on three hits. A combination of RHP Jose Mujica, LHP Jose A. Ferrer, RHP Andres Machado, and RHP Jordan Weems held the Tides hitless in the last four frames. LHP Cole Irvin (2-0) earned the win for Norfolk.

The Diamond Pro Player of the Game is Derek Hill, who collected four hits with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. It's his first game with at least four hits since August 7, 2019 with Double-A Erie (DET), where he collected five hits.

The Wings travel home for a six-game set against St. Paul, beginning on Tuesday. RHP Joan Adon (1-1, 3.92) is scheduled to make his fifth start of the year for Rochester. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm.
