Knicks Falls in Heartbreak at the Buzzer
January 10, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
LAKELAND, FL - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, led the Lakeland Magic for most of the game but last second defensive lapses saw the Magic come away with the 122-120 win Friday evening at RP Funding Center.
After the Magic (12-10) trailed by 12, the Knicks' (10-13) largest advantage all game, less than four minutes into the fourth quarter 100-88, Lakeland outscored Westchester 25-18 over the next seven minutes. Down just five, 118-113 at 2:50, Hassani Gravett nailed a triple for the Magic and JJ Moore cut to the basket for two to help push the Knicks back up four with 82 seconds left.
A defensive breakdown for the Knicks provided Melvin Frazier Jr. a wide open three on the feed from Vic Law which saw the hosts behind just one with 27.1 seconds remaining. After the Magic cashed in on a gifted free-throw which tied the game at 120-up, a half-court inbounds play ultimately saw Law sink a floater as time expired and Lakeland secured the dramatic comeback.
Lakeland capitalized 24 points off of the Knicks 15 turnovers. Lakeland also committed 15 turnovers, but Westchester converted 11 points off the miscues.
Peters led the Knicks in scoring and assists for the 11th and 15th time, respectively, finishing with 29 points and six assists. Peters also swished seven triples, his third game with at least that much. New York Knicks assignee Ignas Brazdeikis scored 21 points on 50-percent, hauled nine boards and dished five dimes. Kenny Wooten tied his career-high with 18 points and grabbed six rebounds.
For the hosts, Andrew Rowsey captured 33 points and five three-pointers. Frazier Jr. ended with 31 points, which included five triples, and eight rebounds.
The Knicks and Magic conclude their back-to-back tomorrow, Saturday, January 11.
