SAN ANTONIO, TX. - Corey Kluber struck out seven over seven frames of shutout work to lead the Missions to a 3-0 whitewash of the Hooks Tuesday night at Wolff Municipal Stadium in the final game of the first half for both clubs.

The Hooks finished the half with a 36-34 record, good enough for sole possession of second place in the Texas League South, 2½ games behind division-winners Frisco. The Missions (35-35) tied Midland for third, as all four clubs ended the half at .500 or better.

Kluber (3-5) carried a no-hitter into the fourth and finished by retiring seven in a row. He scattered four hits and did not issue a walk. Kluber hit Koby Clemens with a pitch to open the second. Clemens was the only Hook to reach base in the first three innings.

Kluber increased his Texas League-leading strikeout total to 91.

San Antonio scored all of its runs in the third. Singles by Andrew Parrino and Logan Forsythe and a subsequent steal by Forsythe put runners at second and third with two outs. Sawyer Carroll was intentionally walked, bringing James Darnell to the plate.

Darnell drew a four-pitch walk off Corpus Christi starter Jared Wells (4-3), forcing in Parrino with the game's first run. Michael Collins followed with a single to right-center that chased home Forsythe and Carroll to make it 3-0 Missions.

Kluber, Evan Scribner and Craig Italiano (14th save) limited the Hooks to five hits on the night. One of those hits was a two-out single to center by J.B. Shuck in the eighth off Scribner. Shuck extended his hitting streak to eight games with that base hit.

The second half of the season gets under way Wednesday night at 7:05. Lefty Douglas Arguello (7-3) has the honor for Corpus Christi while San Antonio counters with southpaw Cory Luebke (3-0).
