
1st Half Ends with Cardinals Victory

Springfield Cardinals News Release
Little Rock, AR - In the last game of the 1st half of the season, the Springfield Cardinals looked to end on a strong note and sent Scott McGregor to the mound for his Double-A debut against the Arkansas Travelers.
After three perfect innings from Scott McGregor, Andrew Romine led off the bottom of the 4th with a single. A fielder's choice ground out from Kevin Ramos notched the first out before Jeremy Moore came to the plate. Moore would deliver a double into left center field and Ramos tried to score from first on the play, but Pete Kozma's relay throw to the plate was on the money to get Ramos at home and keep the game tied 0-0.
The Cardinals would get their first hit of the game in the 5th inning as Jose Garcia doubled down the left field line with one out. Travs' starter Jeremy Thorne would then issue three straight walks forcing in a run giving Springfield a 1-0 lead.
In the 6th, the Cardinals offense woke up as Aaron Luna led off with a walk and Adron Chambers singled to right to put runners on first an second. After Curt Smith flew out to center moving Luna to third, Jose Garcia lined a single to right to put Springfield up 2-0. Jeremy Thorne would be taken out of the game for reliever Barret Browning who struck out Daryl Jones for the second out of the inning. Pete Kozma then came up and singled down the left field line to score two to put the Cards up 4-0.
Scott McGregor dealt in his AA debut with Springfield as he did not allow a run through the first six innings of work. In the 7th, Jeremy Moore led off with a single and, with one out, Efren Navarro hit a routine double play ball to second base, but it went through the legs of Jose Garcia for an error allowing Navarro to reach and move Moore to third. Abel Nieves followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to right to score Moore bringing the Cardinals lead to just 4-1.
The Travs would plate another unearned run in the 8th inning against McGregor as he walked Andrew Romine with two outs before being replaced by Adam Reifer. The reliever allowed a single to Kevin Ramos to right field and Romine tried to get to third base. Right fielder Tyler Came up throwing and launched the ball into the third base dug out allowing Romine to score making it a 4-2 game. Reifer struck out Jeremy Moore to end the innings.
The Cardinals added an insurance run in the 9th as Pete Kozma walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch giving Springfield a three run cushion, 5-2.
Eduardo Sanchez allowed two hits in the 9th, but closed down the Travs to earn his 11th save of the save of the season.
Springfield will continue their four game series at Arkansas Wednesday night. In game three, Springfield will send left hander Nick Additon (3-5) to the mound against right hander Ryan Brasier (5-6) for the Travelers.
