Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Naturals third baseman Mike Moustakas has been named to the U.S. Team for the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game to be played on Sunday, July 11th in Anaheim, CA. The game will be played at Angel Stadium at 5:00 P.M. CT. ESPN2, ESPN2 HD, MLB.TV, and XM Radio 175 will all broadcast the game live.
It will be a homecoming of sorts for the 21-year old Moustakas, who resides not too far away from Angel Stadium in Newport Beach. The slugger is having a tremendous season at the plate in his first experience in Double-A, batting .355 with 17 homers and 63 RBI heading into the season's second half. Moustakas leads the Texas League in all of the triple crown categories and has a slugging percentage nearly 200 points higher than the next best hitter in the league.
For the Futures game, the U.S. Team is comprised of a 25-man roster which competes against 25 prospects selected for the World Team. Moustakas will be joined on the U.S. team by fellow Royals' prospect Eric Hosmer, a first baseman from Advanced Class-A Wilmington who may see time with the Naturals in the season's second half. A handful of other 2010 Texas Leaguers were also selected, including catcher Wilin Rosario (Tulsa), and pitchers Jordan Lyles (Corpus Christi), Eduardo Sanchez (Springfield), Simon Castro (San Antonio), and Christian Friedrich (Tulsa).
Several players selected for the All-Star Futures Game have gone on to have solid and in some cases spectacular big league careers. Players such as Ryan Howard, Evan Longoria, and Grady Sizemore all were selected to the Futures Game as minor leaguers.
This is the second time in the three year history of the Naturals' franchise that a player has been selected to play in the All-Star Futures game. Right-handed pitcher Julio Pimentel was a member of the World squad in 2008.
The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. The Naturals have a toll-free ticket hotline (1-877-444-2637) for fans to purchase Naturals tickets.
