Tulsa Drillers News Release

A disappointing first half of the Texas League season for the Tulsa Drillers came to a disappointing end Tuesday in Northwest Arkansas. The Naturals pushed across a run in the bottom of the 13th inning to defeat the Drillers 5-4 in the first-half finale. With the loss, Tulsa ends the half with a 29-40 record.

The game-deciding 13th began with a one-out single from Anthony Seratelli off reliever Stu Pomeranz. Chris McConnell followed with a bunt base hit that left runners at first and second. Pomeranz retired Derrick Robinson a fly out, but Johnny Giavotella ended the game with a lined single that plated Seratelli with the winning run.

Tulsa was held to only 8 hits in the 13-inning game, while the Naturals finished with 15.

The Drillers had opened the game's scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single from Daniel Mayora, then added to their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third. The first came home on consecutive doubles from Charlie Blackmon and Bronson Sardinha. A sacrifice fly from Mayora brought Sardinha home for the second run of the inning, giving Tulsa a 3-0 lead.

The margin evaporated with one swing of the bat from Northwest Arkansas third baseman Mike Moustakas. Moustakas, who leads the Texas League in all three Triple Crown categories, belted a three-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. It was his 17th longball of the year.

A solo home run by Manuel Pina in the fifth gave the Naturals the lead, but the Drillers answered in the top of the sixth. Lars Davis singled, one of his three hits, and eventually scored on an error by McConnell at short. The run tied the game at 4-4, setting the stage for the extra innings.

The Drillers will meet the Naturals again on Wednesday afternoon in the first game of the second half of the season. Christian Friedrich (0-5, 4.58 ERA), who also pitched the season opener, will take the mound for Tulsa against Edgar Osuna (6-2, 2.76 ERA). First pitch is set for 12:00PM at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale.
