Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Corpus Christi starting pitcher Jordan Lyles has been selected to participate in the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, slated for Sunday, July 11, at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. Lyles is one of ten pitchers on the U.S. Team roster and the only Houston farmhand chosen for the game.
Lyles, 19, pegged by Baseball America as the top pitching prospect in the Astros system and the No. 3 prospect overall in the organization, is having a stellar season for the Hooks. In 14 first-half appearances, Lyles is 6-4 with a Texas League-best 2.37 ERA. He ranks second in the circuit in both strikeouts (78) and WHIP (1.11) and is third in innings pitched (87.1).
A native of South Carolina, Lyles has recorded eight quality starts this year and recently equaled his career high with 11 strikeouts during seven innings of shutout relief against San Antonio.
Lyles was also named the Texas League's Pitcher of the Week for the period that ended Sunday. In his last two appearances during Corpus Christi's most recent home stand, Lyles went 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA, allowing just one earned run over 14.0 innings while notching 19 strikeouts.
Two Hooks distinguished themselves in last year's XM All-Star Futures Game in St. Louis. Chia-Jen Lo was the winning pitcher for the World Team, while catcher Jason Castro belted a three-run home run for the U.S. Team.
