Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, CA - The Ontario Reign announced today that defenseman Austin Strand and Forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan have been assigned on loan to Ontario from Los Angeles. Both Strand and Anderson-Dolan were signed to a three year, entry-level-contracts by the LA Kings earlier this season. Stand will wear number eight with the Reign; Anderson-Dolan will wear number 42.
The 21-year-old Strand (born February 17, 1997), a 6-4, 216-pound native of Calgary, ALTA, just completed fourth year in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he skated in 69 games for the Seattle Thunderbirds totaling 39 assists and 64 points (25-39-64). Strand finished second amongst WHL defensemen in goals (25) and first in powerplay goals (14). Most recently, Strand skated in all five of Seattle's first round playoff games, totaling three points (1-2-3). The Thunderbirds were defeated by the Everett Silvertips in five games (best of seven series).
Strand began his major junior career with the Red Deer Rebels for two-and-a-half seasons before being traded to Seattle halfway through the 2016-17 campaign. Seattle, backed by 10 assists and 14 points from Strand, would go on to win the WHL Championship that season, defeating the Regina Pats in the finals in six games. In total, Strand finishes with 268 regular season games played in the WHL totaling 122 points (40-82-122) and 242 penalty minutes.
Anderson-Dolan, the 18-year-old (born September 12th, 1999) Calgary native just finished his fourth season with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL, where he averaged over a point per game with 91 points in 70 games played (41-50-91). Anderson-Dolan was among the top twenty of all point getters in the WHL this season (71) and led the Chiefs in total points (91), goals (41) and power play goals (13). Anderson-Dolan played in all seven of the Chiefs first round playoff appearances. Spokane fell to the Portland Winterhawks in seven games.
Anderson-Dolan, originally drafted in the second round (41st overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by Los Angeles, spent his entire WHL career with the Chiefs, totaling 212 games played, 93 goals and 193 points (93-100-193). In September of 2017, Anderson-Dolan was selected as captain to represent Canada at the IIHF World U18 Championship. Team Canada was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Sweden.
Additionally, the Los Angeles Kings announced yesterday that they have recalled both Oscar Fantenberg and Jonny Brodzinski. Brodzinski has since been reassigned to the Ontario Reign.
The Reign are back in action tonight, Friday, April 6th at 7:00 PM to take on the San Diego Gulls. Single game tickets are available at ontarioreign.com or by visiting the Citizens Business Bank Arena Box Office.
