Kings Place Miller On IR; Recall Clarke And Gleason

MANCHESTER, NH – The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, have placed defenseman Aaron Miller on the injured reserve list (retroactive to December 11) due to a cervical strain, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. In addition Taylor announced that the Kings have recalled left wing Noah Clarke and defenseman Tim Gleason from the Monarchs, and center Jerred Smithson has been assigned to the Monarchs. Miller, 33, has missed the last two games due to an injury he suffered during the Kings-Atlanta Thrashers game on December 10 in Atlanta. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound native of Buffalo, New York, has played in 20 games with the Kings this season, recording three points (1-2=3) and 26 penalty minutes. Miller, who missed the club's first eight games due to a left wrist fracture, has appeared in 467 career NHL regular season games with the Kings and Colorado/Quebec. He has 94 career points (24-70=94) and 297 penalty minutes.

Clarke, 24, becomes the first Southern California-born player to appear on a Kings roster. The 5-foot-10, 193-pound native of LaVerne has played in 27 games with the Monarchs this season and has 23 points (9-14=23) and 16 penalty minutes. His 23 points are tied for second most on the team while his nine goals rank third. Clarke, selected by the Kings in the ninth-round (250th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, is expected to wear No. 39.

Gleason, 20, began the season, his first in the NHL, with the Kings and played in 20 games, recording one assist and 11 penalty minutes. He was assigned to Manchester on November 28 and he appeared in seven games with the Monarchs, recording three points (all assists) and two penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1, 214-pound Gleason is a native of Southfield, Michigan.

Smithson, 24, played in eight games with the Kings this season and recorded one assist and four penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound native of Vernon, British Columbia, began the season in Manchester - where he played in 20 games. He has six points (2-4=6) and 21 penalty minutes. The Kings recalled Smithson on November 28.

The Monarchs travel to Utah to take on the Grizzles on Friday, December 19 and Saturday, December 20 at the "E" Center. Face-offs are set for 9:05 p.m. The Monarchs tied the Grizzles 2-2 on Friday, December 12 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Monarchs next game at the Verizon Wireless Arena is set for Saturday, December 27 at 7:35 p.m. against the Worcester IceCats at 7:35 p.m. The first 5,000 fans attending Saturday's game will receive a free Monarchs hat, courtesy of Executive Health & Fitness.
