Barons to Host Cleveland Hockey Legends Night

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Barons will host "Cleveland Hockey Legends Night" on Saturday, December 20th at 7:00pm at Gund Arena against the Rochester Americans. On that night, Jock Callander, Fred Glover, and Dave Michayluk will be inducted into the inaugural class of the "Cleveland Hockey Legends Ring of Honor". Michael T. Lehr, President of the Cleveland Barons, made the announcement.

The "Cleveland Hockey Legends Ring of Honor" will be unveiled prior to the game, as Callander, Glover, and Michayluk dasher boards will be displayed during the induction ceremony. The three players are the most prolific scorers in the history of Cleveland Hockey. In addition, the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Jock Callander Bobblehead Doll.

Callander's name became synonymous with scoring as a player. He is the IHL's all-time leading scorer with 1,402 IHL career points (554 goals, 848 assists), while playing in parts of 17 seasons. Callander became a Cleveland hockey icon by playing his final seven seasons with the Cleveland Lumberjacks. Jock also played in 109 career NHL games with Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay scoring 22 goals and 29 assists for a total of 51 points. While teaming with Mario Lemieux, Callander was a member of the 1992 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Callander currently is a member of the Barons front office serving as the Youth Hockey and Fan Development Coordinator.

Glover played for the original Cleveland Barons from 1953-68 and coached them from 1962-68. As a player, Glover appeared in seven Calder Cups, winning five, and was the Most Valuable Player an AHL-record three times. He appeared in 1,201 games during his 20-year career registering 520 goals and 814 assists for 1,334 points. Glover is second in AHL history in goals, assists, and points. His 16 seasons with the Barons are the most with one team in AHL history. Glover, who passed away in 2001, will be represented by his brother and teammate Howie.

Michayluk is the regular season IHL leader in goals, scoring 547 goals in 968 games. The Wakaw, Saskatchewan native spent five seasons with the Cleveland Lumberjacks scoring 146 goals and 169 assists for 315 points in 322 games. He did not miss a game from 1990-1994 and set an IHL record with nine consecutive 100-point seasons. Michayluk was named to the IHL First All-Star Team five times in his career.

Several Cleveland Hockey Alumni are expected to attend the game including: Perry Ganchar, Bob Whidden, Wayne Schultz, Wayne Muloin, Chris Longo, Ron Ward, Ian Cushenan, Rick Hayward, Bill Needham, Dennis Giannini, Terry Holbrook, Jim Sutphin, Mark Osborn, Mike Tamburro, George Zajankala, and Jeff Rucinski. The alumni will sign autographs during one of the night's intermissions.

"Cleveland Hockey Legends Night will be very special for the city of Cleveland," stated Lehr. "These three icons embody the spirit of greatness and our fans will be reminded of that every time they look at the Cleveland Hockey Legends Ring of Honor."
