Kingfish Complete Two-Game Sweep against Kalamazoo

Kenosha, WI - The Kenosha Kingfish (9-7) defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers (5-10) in game two of the series 6-2 at Historic Simmons Field Tuesday, June 15.
The Growlers came alive first scoring a run off of Kingfish starter Trent Turzenski (Valparaiso) on two hits and a walk. The Kingfish answered with a run of their own as Kirk Liebert (University of Kentucky) hit his first triple of the season, and scored on a single from Cam Redding (St. Louis University).
It was a pitching duel for both Turzenski and Kalamazoo starter Austin Strickland (University of Kentucky) as they battled pitch count and strong offense. The Growlers picked up their second run in the third when Anthony Calarco (Northwestern) crossed the plate on a single from Luke Storm (Duke University).
Justin Janas (University of Illinois) led off the bottom of the third with a single, and later came around to score on a single from Sam Beers (Concordia-Wisconsin). Casey O'Laughlin (Azusa Pacific) drew a walk and crossed the plate on an RBI groundout from Josh Leslie (McNeese State).
The Kingfish picked up their fourth run when Liebert came around to score after his second triple of the day on a Redding sacrifice fly. Kenosha retained this 4-2 lead until the eighth inning when two runs scored on three hits and an intentional walk.
Turzenski is credited with the win for the Kingfish. He threw 5.2 innings for the Kingfish, allowing two runs on seven hits and strikeouts a piece. Mitch Waletzki (Minnesota-Duluth) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, and Nick Meyer (Dayton) struck out the side in the ninth. Strickland is credited with the loss for Kalamazoo, giving up four earned runs and eight hits.
Liebert went 2-4 with a pair of triples, Redding went 2-4 with 3 RBIs, MItch Jebb, and Leslie went 3-4 with an RBI.
After an off day on Wednesday, June 16 the Kingfish will travel to Kokomo on Thursday, June 17 to take on the Jackrabbits to start a two-game set at 5:30 p.m. CT.
