Reading Fightin Phils News Release

(Reading, PA) - With a six hour bus trip to New Hampshire looming after Tuesday night's game, the Reading Fightin Phils had everything working for them in the fifth and deciding game of their series against the Hartford Yard Goats. Franklyn Kilome delivered seven innings for the first time, and the offense added to its league-leading home run total, getting three homers from Austin Bossart, Darick Hall, and Jan Hernandez. 6,775 made their way out to FirstEnergy Stadium, and the Fightins wrapped up their nine-game homestand with a 7-1 win in just two hours and 16 minutes.

Kilome allowed just one run in the top of the third while his mates tried solving Yard Goats starter Jesus Tinoco. The pitcher led off with a single against the Phillies 40-man member, and came around to score on a wild pitch with Kilome within one strike of getting out of the inning.

The game shifted in the bottom of the fourth when Austin Listi led off with a single to extend his hitting streak to eight games. With two outs, Hernandez doubled him home on a smack down the left field line, and Bossart cranked an 0-2 pitch out to left for his seventh home run and a 3-1 Fightins advantage.

During Tinoco's final frame in the fifth, Malquin Canelo roped a double to start the inning as he finished 3-for-4 to raise his average to .273. Cornelius Randolph brought him home right away with a double for a 4-1 lead, and two batters later, Hall jacked his second home run of the homestand on a drive to right to go up 6-1. In the sixth, Hernandez brought in his second run with an opposite field home run to right center field to lead things off.

Kilome allowed just three singles all night, with the final one coming from Dom Nunez to open up the top of the seventh. After walking Omar Carrizales with one out, he retired the next two hitters to make it through seven for the first time this season with a 7-1 lead. Seth McGarry and Aaron Brown were perfect in the eighth and ninth, respectively, with both relievers adding a strikeout to close out the homestand.
