Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Scoring five unanswered runs, the Keys cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Carolina Mudcats in front of 3,517 at Harry Grove Stadium.

Bobby Stevens led the Keys offensively with three RBI as he kick-started the Keys' scoring binge in the second inning with his fifth homerun of the year. A big two-RBI single in the sixth inning then gave the Keys several insurance runs as they coasted from there.

The Keys now even their series with the Mudcats and move to 15-26 on the year while Carolina slips to 22-22.

Scott Copeland (2-3, 5.24 ERA) gets the win for the Keys after going 5.2 innings and giving up just one earned run.

Clay Schrader earns a hold as he entered the game in a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth inning and got out of it by striking out Ronny Rodriguez for the final out. For Schrader, he struck out six batters in 2.2 innings.

With the score tied at one in the bottom of the second, Stevens started the Keys' offense with a line drive solo homerun over the left field wall to give the Keys a 2-1 lead.

Then in the sixth, with the bases loaded and nobody out, a two-RBI single from Stevens brought the Keys a 4-1 lead. After a Joe Oliveira sacrifice fly brought in another run, the Keys had taken a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Trent Mummey delivered an insurance run the next inning to give the Keys a 6-1 lead when he reached second on a double and then on two wild pitches was able to advance home.

Schrader and relief pitcher Ryan Berry shut the door on Carolina from there, as the two relievers went a combined 3.1 innings and gave up just two hits.

The Keys will look to take the series against Carolina tomorrow night as LHP Rick Zagone (2-0, 1.40 ERA) takes the mound against RHP Kyle Blair (1-0, 4.15 ERA).
