Carolina Mudcats News Release

FREDERICK, MD - Scott Copeland held the Carolina Mudcats at bay through six innings, enough time for the Frederick Keys to pull away in a 6-1 victory on Tuesday night at Harry Grove Stadium.

Copeland (2-3) held the Mudcats to one run, despite six hits. The right-hander walked two and struck out four.

The Mudcats fall back to .500 at 22-22 with the setback. Frederick improves to 15-26.

Michael Goodnight (1-4) gave another nice start for Carolina, but tough luck found the Texan once again. After allowing two runs in the first two innings, including a solo home run to Bobby Stevens, Goodnight settled in to throw three scoreless frames.

The Keys finally got to Goodnight and the Mudcats in the sixth. Frederick started the inning with two hits and a walk to load the bases. Steven came through for the Keys once again by punching a two-run single to center for a 4-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Joe Oliveira made it 5-1.

Trent Mummey doubled and scored thanks to two wild pitches in the seventh for the final margin.

Carolina had ample chances in the game, pelting eight hits that included four doubles. Jake Lowery doubled a liner down the left field line for the Mudcats' only run in the second inning.

The Mudcats left nine on base, and finished 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Carolina Mudcats finish the series with the Frederick Keys Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The team returns home on Friday, May 25, to host the Winston-Salem Dash. Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
