
Kernels outlast weather, hold on for 3-2 win over Bees

The Cedar Rapids Kernels waited out a 70-minute rain delay and then held on for a 3-2 win over the Burlington Bees on Saturday night at Community Field in Burlington. Roberto Lopez went 2-3 with a HR and RBI and Gabe Jacobo went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Kernels starter Manuel Flores (4-3) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four over eight innings and Mike Kohn struck out the side in the ninth for his sixth save. Chris Fox drove in the Kernels third run on an RBI single.
Burlington starter Bryan Casey (4-7) allowed two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out two over 3.2 innings for the loss. Antonio Jimenez and Juan Rivera each had an RBI for the Bees.
The final game in the four games series between the Kernels and Bees is Sunday afternoon at 2 pm as Tyler Chatwood starts against lefty Mike Montgomery.
