Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - The last time Erik Davis pitched against the South Bend Silver Hawks, he weathered a nightmarish eight-run inning and took the loss. Saturday, he turned the tables on South Bend, firing 5.2 strong innings to lead the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 7-2 win at Parkview Field. Justin Baum and Daniel Robertson paced the offense with home runs and Cole Figueroa drilled a bases-clearing double.
The TinCaps jumped in front in the bottom of the 1st. After Robertson dumped a two-out single to left field, Baum launched a two-run shot to the Home Run Porch in left to give Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead.
In the 5th, Robertson drove in Blake Tekotte with a single. Later in the inning, Figueroa came to the plate with two out and the bases loaded and promptly unloaded them with a double to the alley in left-center to make it 6-0.
Davis took it from there, holding the Silver Hawks scoreless through five innings. In the 6th, he gave up an RBI double to Bluffton, Ind., native Justin Parker which cut the lead to 6-1.
In the 7th, Robertson hammered a solo home run to make it 7-1. A wild pitch in the top of the 8th plated Parker as the final run of the game.
Davis (6-3) went 5.2 innings, allowing a run on five hits; he walked one and struck out four. South Bend RHP Ryan Cook lost his sixth consecutive start to fall to 5-6.
The TinCaps improved to 48-25 overall, 3-0 in the second half. They are now 14-1 against their intrastate rivals this season. South Bend dropped to 27-44, 0-3 in the half.
